Well, his mum had red hair (something that pleases me as I do too!) so it's not unlikely that he had hints of it. Mind you, I think it was actually light brown.

His hair actually looks light brown on the cover the The John Lennon Collection cd but it looks reddish brown on the cover of the John and Yoko on Dick Cavett dvd.
