I love this song. Has a real retro, upbeat feel.
I must say the subject matter is ironic and very sad, in that he only started over briefly. The background vocalist chanting "overrrrr" is rather haunting also.
(Just Like) Starting Over is my favourite Lennon song. It has stuck into my memory and life forever.
Do other people just love this song?

Yes, I love it too. It was the perfect song to open the Double Fantasy album and mark the beginning of his comeback, which as you say unfortunately didn't last very long. It makes me sad every time I hear it, because he sounded so positive about the future. It's a fantastic song and definitely one of my favourites. I love his vocals and the 1950s feel.

I really love (Just Like) Starting Over, its a fun song to listen to but at the same time sad when you consider the lyrics. It's not my favorite song but would be up there in my top 10.

Proof to some that Lennon had lost his radical side, and was more into making hits. Being about the same age as John when he wrote this I find I get a little more reflective about my life and this sort of thing appeals, does it mean I am selling out to the system as well? Starting over was one of Johns earliest singles that I bought so I have a soft spot for it. Not one of my favourites though.

I love this song as well.
The OP said it very well. Starting over, and all Lennon songs are with me forever. They are timeless.
He created a musical background for our lives.

I love this song but yeah,I always had this bittersweet feeling when listening to it. It always made me partly sad even though I loved it so much. and like I said in another thread it used to remind me of my ex boyfriend (before he became "ex") which makes it even sadder for me now.
