Davey and lennonlegend said it all. It's an amazing song, and one of his best. Yes. Proves his talent did not fade. He still had it. If anything he was getting better. That in itself is sad, but still, he went out on top. As a legend.

I was reading an article where Yoko said she and John were disappointed when (Just Like) Starting Over only reached #8 in the UK charts (although it did go to #1 after his death). Do you think Woman would have been a better choice as the first single from Double Fantasy? I love both songs, but maybe Woman would have been a bigger hit. Personally I can't understand why all his singles weren't number ones, but I suppose I'm biased.

Even though the critics say it reached number 1 after his death, it was already climbing the charts and heading into the top ten. It is probably his second best song on Double Fantasy behind "Watching The Wheels". It makes me so mad when I think of all the songs he was getting ready to release on his next album that he never got the chance to polish up in the studio. Classics like "Real Love", Grow Old With Me", and "I'm Stepping Out". He was on his way back bigger and better than before.

I totally agree with you both guys. This album is very mature and it clearly showing a period of personal evolution, another step on John's life. my favorite songs are:
(Just Like) Starting Over I'm Losing You I'm Moving On Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy) This one has a great vocals. Watching The Wheels Woman

The melody of this song is so damn beautiful. And it's great that we are able to hear the working process of this song now (via bootlegs). A wonderful track. One morning last October, I woke up with the melody in my head and whistled the melody the whole day. Weeks later, I found out that 'Starting Over' was released EXACTLY the same day, 29 years ago, when I had the melody in my head. I LOVE these kind of coincidences!

It's a good pop song, but not a great one & it's symbolic as a new beginning for John before his death.

It's my favourite song too (besides Instant Karma) , though the first time I heard it on the radio, it was the day on which John died, so it makes me a bit sad each time I listen to it Snoopy

Amazing song! Only the best of the best are capable of that kind of pop, yet maintaining the rock flavor that is John Lennon. So pure and so upbeat. He had everything in place, everything was going for him in life, he was back. and it shows in the sound of that record, in the feel and in his voice. Utterly amazing. John's entire life was a struggle.. but more than that it was a search for the type of inner peace and hopefulness that you hear being conveyed in that track. and whats eerie is that at pretty much the very moment he found that.. at the very moment it looked like it had all worked out... the story ends. really sad, but what a beautiful moment he share with us in that tune. I love it.
