I heard about this on another forum, and I wanted to know what you all think. I guess they're thinking of getting rid of the Monkees from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but do you think they should? They're thinking of doing it because they originated from a TV show, I guess. I think they shouldn't be banned, mainly because it would be an insult to them. I know they're not the most seriuos band, considering they didn't play their own instruments and didn't write their own lyrics. But still, don't they have a few rap artists in the Hall of Fame?

The Monkeys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame?
I dont recall that happening, but thats not to say it isnt true. Maybe you could show me when
Who cares if they didnt write their own songs, or play their own instruments if in fact that really is true.
And the monkees did have some great songs

I think they should be, I mean sure they originally were meant to be a "fake band" but actually became a real one, I've seen them in concert 2 times and they did contribute a lot to the rock n roll era in the 60's they were one of the top bands, I think they deserve as much as anyone else in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, let's hope they will be honored with it soon.

The Monkees have NOT been inducted into the Hall of Fame. People keep making a big deal about it,which is why they haven't yet. Michael Nesmith did in fact write ALOT of the Monkees songs. and in time the other members did write songs too.
But their most popular singles were the ones the weren't written by them such as Last Train to Clarksville (by Boyce and Hart) and I'm a Believer (By Neil Diamond)

The Monkees deserve to be inducted into the RNRHOF because their music is timeless, their TV show is timeless & their movie Head is a trip. I know they were a made for television pop group, but they became a real band afterward. Mike Nesmith is a great singer, songwriter & musician, in his own right, along with being a country/rock pioneer. I've been a dedicated Monkees fan since 69, with Mike & Micky being my favorites of the group. I'll never understand why Nesmith & Dolenz never became huge solo artists like Paul McCartney or Ozzy Osbourne.
