Is there anyone else here who likes Elliott Smith? Most of the music I listen to is classic rock/60s & 70s pop, but Elliott Smith is one of the singer-songwriters from the 90s that I really like. My favourite songs of his are Happiness, Waltz #2 and Stupidity Tries. He has also covered a lot of Beatles songs...he did a beautiful version of Because.

I'm surprised nobody has replied yet nowheregirl! I think Elliott Smith is great! My faves are Sweet Adeline, Waltz #2, Son of Sam, Memory Lane, and Baby Britain. (Have you noticed how Baby Britain sounds like the Beatles song Getting Better?)

Stupidity Tries is one of my favorite songs! The instant I heard it I had to grab my guitar and learn the riffs! Played loud, too. Annoyed the neighbors. But yes, I liked Elliott Smith a lot. Too bad he's gone. Now I'll be left to wonder what he might have done next. Still appreciate the songs he had written though.

Hello, gabrieleisner....and welcome to the forum! Elliott was a very talented guy and the complex twists in melodies of the songs he wrote always intrigued me. I knew from the very first time I heard him that I would like nearly every song he recorded. I also think John would have approved of his Beatles covers a lot. I'm sure Paul did, because they wrote and recorded in similiar musical styles, IMO. I knew Mr. Smith was a Beatles fan from the first note.

Elliott Smith is really really talented. It really mellows me out. If you like him you should try Conor Oberst and Bright Eyes similar music to Elliott's just not so much whispering.
