Personally, I like the barebones version better, because it has warmth, and not as syrupy as the orchestration one. But John would disagree with me if he were today. He said to Yoko in the fall of 1980 while in bermuda, "I want horns, and trumpets, strings, to be on Grow Old With Me". So this orchestrated version is more in line of John's thinking. But again, these songs are beautiful, orchestrated or not.

I have to agree, I remember thinking ew, the first time I heard the orchestrated version, It has grown on me now but I still prefer the barebones version.

Both versions are beautiful, but I had to vote for the orchestrated one, because as I think I mentioned on another thread it was one of the songs I had played at my wedding. That was about a year after the John Lennon Anthology was released.

The 'barebones' version, but I love both.
