Imagine you had a friend who knew nothing about John Lennon. Which albums, books and DVDs would you recommend to him or her?
You can choose no more than 3 albums, 3 books and 3 DVDs.
Post your lists here (and give reasons for your choices if you want to).

Albums1. Imagine 2. John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band 3. Lennon Legend I consider the first two to be John's best albums and should be essential listening for any fan. For the third album, I've chosen a compilation as it's a good way to introduce a new fan to his music. Books1. Lennon: The Definitive Biography by Ray Coleman 2. John by Cynthia Lennon 3. In His Own Write/A Spaniard in the Works by John Lennon No, I haven't cheated! In His Own Write & A Spaniard in the Works are available as a double volume. www.amazon.co.uk/His-Own-Write-Spaniard-Works/dp/071266615XDVDs1. Imagine 2. The US vs John Lennon 3. Gimme Some Truth

Albums
- Lennon Legend
- Imagine
- Double Fantasy
I also think that a compilation would be good for the beginners. That way they can hear his most famous songs. I picked 'Imagine' and 'Double Fantasy' because I think they're a bit more... 'accessible'. The songs are well-known and that way, the beginner will certainly feel more comfortable and confident on hearing the records.
Books
Now, this is no easy task. I love reading about John, but certain books may be a bit too specific to newbies. Therefore, I would reccomend:
- Lennon Revealed (which I think is a great book for both beginners and 'hardcore' fans)
- In His Own Write/A Spaniard In The Works (hilarious book, a must-read for everybody!)
- Imagine This (I think it's a good place to start: people will be able to understand his reactions and will start loving him very deeply)
DVD's
- Imagine: John Lennon (amazing documentary on his life and music)
- The US VS. John Lennon (I agree, mates)
- Gimme Some Truth (excellent)
I also think that watching the Beatles films may help, so that you can notice John's wit and laugh at his funny faces.

I think that 'Lennon' by Johnny Rogan should be a good book for beginners. It's easy to read and still amazing.
