Everyone always says he didn't care at all. He's obviously shaken up by it and doesn't want everyone to see him all down. The guys in Wings said he didn't get anything done that day and couldn't concentrate. He also couldn't go to any of his friends' funerals. *cries*

He was obviously shaken up, you can see that in his face. He has hidden his real feelings so that the press wouldn't bother him. 'It's a drag' was the best way he found to express his feelings. Of course he cared for John, he was his best friend. Paul sounded agitated, nervous, and that's a sign that he wasn't OK with it. In a Playboy interview in 1984, McCartney said that he went home that night and watched the news on television—while sitting with all his children—and cried all evening. Obviously, he cared about John.

It is so obviously that Paulie was pretending that every thing's ok... I mean... Everybody knows that Paul and John were best friend... and that will never change... so...

I knew where Paul was coming from, the first time I saw it on TV, back in 80 & he was uncomfortable, with the media, in his face, after John's death. He was trying to be cool & some fans took it for he didn't care, which was wrong. He said it all, with his tribute, to his former bandmate, with Here Today & there's nothing more to say.

Wasn't Paul the one in the Beatles that dealt with the press the best? Always putting on a business face and taking care of things? And wasn't he the one that hid his emotions? Everyone is different, i hide my emotions to some extent. We all deal with death in our own way. Paul is obviously someone who wants to appear strong for an audience (fans) and grieve at home with the comfort of Linda and his kids . I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with how he handled it. The press is too pushy anyway. They need to lay off. especially in tragic times. John and Paul were very close friends almost like brothers. Of course he was devastated. Fans that claim he wasn't are not true fans now are they? Just my opinion

I think Paul saying something like "it's a drag" just proves how upset he was. He was/is usually so good at talking to the press and saying the right things.

It always makes me sad that people can't/couldn't see how Paul felt. I watched a video awhile ago,...and they (some reporter) asked how he felt. Paul's eyes were so distant when he answered.
How do you miss something so... obvious?! (Or is it just me, and that's somehow really subtle??)
People always expect you to be crying everywhere after these things happen, I guess. Grown people don't often do that though, and it always struck me as mean to go and bug somebody who's just had such a shock. I know I don't know which end is up until later, so I certainly wouldn't ask that of anyone else.
Reason for Editing: because making sense is awesome.

If my best friend just died, and reporters were attacking me, I would be upset too. Paul was obviously very sad and very disturbed about this news. Anyone who can't see that is blind! We all miss John Lennon, no matter what age we are, and it is very sad to think about. Just think about how much worse it was to Paul, Yoko, George, Ringo, Cynthia, his sons, and the rest? People need to realize that celebrities are people too, and that Paul was trying the best to get home and hide his emotions from the press!

Paul loved John; I've never had any doubts. Yesterday I listened to "Here Today" again. It's so full of emotions .

I saw Paul live last year and he sang it as a tribute and looked pretty broken up about the song.
