Hello...I'm new as of today. I have been searching the internet for an elusive photo of John. I had about given up until I found this site. If it's anywhere, I imagine it will be here. Anyway, during the recording of the Walls and Bridges album in the mid seventies, John was witnessed using a GUILD acoustic guitar. This guitar was actually a studio guitar that belonged to the recording studio, The Record Plant, which was then located in NYC. The guitar has the block lettering of GUILD on the headstock and what is referred to as the "Chesterfield" inlay directly below it. I can send photo examples of this if anyone wants to see what that looks like. The critical part, though, is GUILD. If anyone has anything of this sort, please contact me mhumphrey9@comcast.net. Thank you.

Hi ehlang,
I'm not sure if I've ever seen a photo of John with that guitar, but I'll look through all my mid 70s photos to see if I can find one. Sorry I can't be more help!

Thank you, nowheregirl. I'm beginning to think a photo showing John playing this guitar may not exist. I know from an eye witness at the studio that he did play it, but that doesn't mean anyone took a picture of him doing so. On the other hand, as I've poured over pictures on this site and others, I find previously unseen (by me) pictures of him playing other guitars that I hadn't seen before. The Guild is an acoustic guitar, and as you well know, John loved his Gibson J-160E in the early years. He then had a Martin he played a lot in later years. But, I've seen pictures of him with a Gibson J-200, an Ovation, a classical model, and even a square home-made looking thing that was probably a stunt of some sort. And others I can't identify. Every time I see a picture of him with an acoustic other than his usual favorites, it gives me hope that the picture I seek may yet be found. So, thanks again to you and others who have and are searching. It is much appreciated.
It's been an extremely nice side in my search to find this site. I grew up with the Beatles as many here did, and John was always my favorite. When the solo work began post-Beatles, I thought his was the best. George comes in a close second, and I'll always contend that he was infinitely more important to the Beatles sound and originality than some give him credit for. But, John's the one, and you've done a great tribute to him and his fans here.

Hi Reza and thanks for searching. Yes, I'm aware of the Guild Starfire 12 stringer. I'm afraid you're correct in your assessment that a picture simply doesn't exist. I knew that was a distinct possibility when I began my search. It's a long shot, to say the least, but one never knows. I had to give it a try, and who knows? Something may show up yet.

Exactly, one never knows. I've found written evidence that he did play a Guild, but I don't seem to find any picture. I'm sorry, ehlang, I wish I could be more helpful.

Hi onolennon, I would very much like to see the written evidence of him playing a Guild, if that's something you have access to. I'm assuming it's a guitar other than the Starfire we previously discussed. I look forward to hearing from you. Feel free to write me at mhumphrey9@comcast.net, especially if you something to attach. Thanks!
