Helter Skelter is the Beatles hard rock masterpiece, an early metal classic & should be known more than just for the Manson Family murders in August of 69. Paul was ahead of his time, before Black Sabbath or Van Halen, but he's never given credit for it & I don't know what song he was trying to outrock the Who on. HS should be in the same leagues as War Pigs, Black Dog, Space Truckin, Runnin With The Devil, Whole Lotta Rosie, Cat Stratch Fever & other hard rock gems.

The song he was trying to outdo was "I Can See For Miles". I think Paul's song is more rockin'!
I agree with you. This song is just pure hard rock masterpiece, with attitude sensibility.
I guess just because The Beatles aren't much in the hard rock genre, people automatically think, "That is pop rock - not hard rock".

Great classic from the Who, but Helter Skelter rips it to pieces & it's too bad it gets overshadowed, from everything by Townshend as well. I believe Ticket To Ride was the Beatles earliest hard rock gem along with Dizzy Miss Lizzy.

You're right, HS has never received the credits it deserved as an hard rock great work, but it is their only one work of this genre, so when people think of The Fab Four, they immediatly think of a pop song...

I believe Ticket To Ride was the Beatles earliest hard rock gem along with Dizzy Miss Lizzy. I Feel Fine is generally regarded as the first hard rock song recorded and released by the Beatles.

There's definitely a different edge that comes out on the White album. and there's a bunch of great hard rock songs on there, most of them John; Me and My Monkey, Yer Blues and Revolution in it's single form. that's their greatest rocker of all time IMO. Helter Skelter gets the #2 slot.
