Oh boy... my whole life. I was raised on rock 'n' roll records and it never left me. I was even named after Elvis (Lisa-Marie)... I always had a preference for Beatles music. I remember being as young as 4 and worshiping them, particularly Paul who was my first crush. I find that as I went through life (I'm 29), my passion for their music evolved and changed. As I matured, I started appreciating different aspects of it, all while maintaining that child-like giddiness every time I hear it. These past few months, I've especially developed a real passion for John. I went through some very rough trials over the past year of my life, and while Paul was singing to cheer me up, John reminded me that even our heroes have suffered, that we're not alone in our life obstacles. I've come to really appreciate that level of raw honesty in music. It used to make my sorrow worse, but now, it only blankets me for some reason. Again, that is perhaps due to the fact that I'm much older now and can handle life differently.
Anyhow, that's a little sum up of what their music has done in my life, as well as a little summary of me as well. Oh and I'm also a musician, which largely is a result of The Beatles.

Hi Lisa Oh, that's funny that you have been named after Elvis I started to be an Elvis-fan in my early teens, but then become more and more a Beatles-fan. It's true that Paul has more cheeful songs than John. On the other hand, I found John's lyrics more interesting than those from Paul, probably because they are more honest and personal. Is there a special reason that you developed a real passion for John in the past months ? Is it due to a specific album or song ? Snoopy

Well, years back, I remember being alone in my apartment and hearing "Working Class Hero" for the first time and just sitting there very still, weeping. I must have played it about 5 times in a row. It really struck a chord in me, since I was raised in an emotionally abusive household, and also suffered from some pretty nasty bullying in school. It just really eased my mind that somebody else was honest enough to sing about such a vulnerable subject. That whole album became one of my gems, with tracks like "Isolation", "Mother" and quite recently "I Found Out", which has really grown on me and given me a new appreciation for his solo stuff. See, I was always very used to intricate melodies and never grasped the flip side which focused on lyrics. But due to a whirlwind of events this past year, my soul was craving lyrics that were honest. I went through some ordeals which really took a knife at my trust in a lot of people. I had worked for years at rebuilding it, then all in a few months, I saw it shatter. "Then stumbling on tracks like "Give Me Some Truth" reminded me, "Hey! HE wasn't a hypocrite. He hated hypocrites as much as I do!" I suppose I now understand his perspective a lot more. I've always sided with his peace and love protests... but since I was always taught to mask my pain with strength, I always thought it odd when people were so opened about their pain in music. I would say to myself, "Yes, just the world needs... more whining and complaining. Come on! Sing about something that'll cheer people up!" But then it dawned on me: it's equally important to sing about pain, because everyone can relate to it somehow. And it's always important to deal with it in the open... It allows us to stay sane. Wow, I'm rambling... but that's pretty much the explanation.

Hi Lisa According to your explanation seems that you had to go through difficult times in the past and that John's music helped you to get over it. John wrote indeed honest lyrics and certainly wasn't an hypocrite. He wrote about pain, but also wrote optimistic songs which may cheer you up, as for example in "Double Fantasy" Snoopy
