On Monday (August 27 2007) it will be the 40th anniversary of the day Brian Epstein died. So I thought I'd start a thread for us to talk about Brian - his life, death, pictures or anything you want to post about the Beatles manager!

I read "Brian Epstein: The Man Who Made The Beatles" by Ray Coleman, it was a great read. The sad thing about Brians life of course is the fact that despite the fact he was so successful he was a lonely man who never really found happiness.

I like Brian, and he was so important to the Beatles. Wether they would still have made it or not without him I don't know, but he helped them a lot. There's a petition to get Brian into the rock and roll hall of fame. I can't believe he's not already in. www.brianepstein.com/petition.html

I remember signing that petition a while ago. I think Brian should definitely be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. When you look at some of the other names that are already in the non-performers section, Brian was just as important to music as most of them were.

I just realized today is Brian Epstein's birthday. If he was still alive he would have been 73.

The closest I ever came to The Beatles is meeting one of my grandmother's best friends when I was 15 who told me with her still present Liverpool accent that she was Brian Epstein's first cousin! Her married name was Sylvia Levy! And she told me what I already knew from studying about The Beatles, that Brian was a depressed troubled guy!
Reason for Editing: I had to add somethingBrian Epstein - fanofthefab4

Statue to honour Beatles legend Brian EpsteinTHE legendary manager of The Beatles is to be honoured with a statue. Brian Epstein discovered the band and guided them to global fame, while also managing Cilla Black, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Billy J Kramer, and others. Now Liverpool council have agreed his contribution to the city's cultural heritage should be permanently saluted, with possible sites earmarked by scheme promoters Homotopia as Williamson Square, Mathew Street, and Whitechapel. A motion was proposed by Cllrs Eddie Clein and Steve Rotheram at Wednesday’s council meeting. Cllr Rotheram said: "We wanted to recognise the role he played in Liverpool’s musical heritage. "People who are 50 perhaps know and understand but there's a large cohort who don’t know who Brian Epstein is." But solicitor Rex Makin, a former friend, said: "I think it's rubbish, I don't believe in statues of any kind. He wouldn't have wanted one - Brian was a very private person." But John James Chambers from the Liverpool Beatles Appreciation Society, was more positive. "We support this and indeed believe Brian, Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best should be made freemen of the city." After George Harrison's death in 2001 there were calls for a Mathew Street statue similar to John Lennon's. Cllr Rotheram said he was reluctant to put a timescale on Mr Epstein's statue because the city was still waiting for a tribute to Mr Harrison. Mr Epstein died in 1967 from an accidental drug overdose.

[ "People who are 50 perhaps know and understand but there's a large cohort who don’t know who Brian Epstein is." Hey, there are more of us 'under-50' Beatle fans than you think, Mr Rotheram! Seriously, I think it's great that they want to honor Brian, though his friend says he wouldn't have wanted a statue, I still think he deserves some recognition.

I think Brian deserves recognition, he had an unshakable belief in The Beatles but was still taking a big risk as well as ridicule from family members and friends. Who knows what would have happened had he not persevered.

Have you heard about the new movie being made about Brian called "The Fifth Beatle"? They are still busy casting at the moment but it sounds interesting. www.fifthbeatlemovie.com/
