hello guys, as you can see, I am new to this forum. I am 28 years old and love the Beatles and especially John. For some reason I could never help but be drawn to John over all the other Beatles.
If you had told me 2 years ago that I would be participating in a John Lennon forum, I'd have thought you were crazy. I grew up knowing a little about the Beatles, but did not really have all that much of an interest in them. I had the view of them as the Beatlemania era Beatles with old fashioned pop songs, which didn't really appeal to me. I knew they had evolved in the late 60's but never gave that era a chance.
One day I was bored and scouring Wikipedia. I think I was watching some 60's documentary on TV at the time and I just randomly wanted to read about the Beatles and their careers just to learn a little more about that era that the Beatles were a big part of. So I read, and I read and I read. Later that day, I remembered that I always liked the song "Strawberry Fields Forever" when I was growing up, so I went to Youtube and played the SFF video, and there the Beatles were - life like and real right in front of me! I am not sure why, but I instantly felt compelled to listen to more Beatles songs. First the ones I knew of - the ones everyone knows of - Hello Goodbye, Come Together, Lucy in the Sky, etc. I decided that I liked the Beatles and started branching out. The one song that got me was "I am the Walrus" I read about how John wrote the first sentence during an acid trip and the second during another acid trip and put them together. The song just sounded way out there and random. Very fun song.
So over time I began to branch out and get familiar with the Beatles catalog and within a week or so, I had this unhealthy attachment to the Beatles. I could not stop reading about them, listening to them, watching videos of them. I even came around on the early years stuff that I had previously dismissed as dated pop music. Later, I began to get into their solo careers and began to fall in love with a lot of it too.
John's story particularly interested me (as it does for many). I loved reading about the breakup of the Beatles, and the breakup of John and Paul, and the early 70's protest years, followed by the lost weekend, then the househusband period and finally his rebirth as a musician ended abruptly with his killing. The man was such a complex interesting person, I couldn't help reading every single thing I got my hands on. I've probably read 10 books cover to cover about John, and another 5-6 about the Beatles in general. I can't get enough! I probably know more about John and the Beatles than 95% of the population, and still I seek more!
Anyways, that's my story! I look forward to contributing in the future.Isolation - Plastic Ono Band
