Are there any other Donovan fans here? I love his music...his lyrics are like poetry. He has often been called the 'British Bob Dylan', but I think that's unfair as his songs have a very different sound to Bob Dylan's.
Some of my favourite songs of his are Hurdy Gurdy Man, Wear Your Love Like Heaven, Barabajagal, Season of the Witch, Riki Tiki Tavi, Atlantis, Only The Blues, Museum, and Jennifer Juniper.
He also wrote a beautiful song called Sand and Foam, which was also the title of a book by Khalil Gibran. It's interesting because John Lennon took some of the lyrics for Julia from the same Khalil Gibran book.
Does anyone else here like him?

I wouldn't say that I am a "fan" but I like his songs. I had his greatest hits on vinyl album from Waaaaay back and bought it on CD years ago. I love that song that goes "first there is a mountain then there is no mountain then there is...." I think Donovan has such a soothing sounding voice.

I love Donovan. I listen to his music a lot and all those songs you listed are fantastic. But you didn't mention Mellow Yellow, Sunshine Superman, Catch The Wind - some more of my favorites!

I'm not much of a Donovan fan but this is a nice video I found from Liverpool Beatle Week. He sings an extra verse of Hurdy Gurdy Man that George Harrison wrote when they were all in India together. "When the truth gets buried deep, beneath a thousand years of sleep, time demands a turn around, and once again the truth is found". www.youtube.com/watch?v=qu-18cP4164

Oh, thanks! ;D I've got an audio version of him singing the lost verse (and talking about being in India with the Beatles) but I'd never seen that video.
George's lyrics are beautiful.

Yeah, Catch The Wind is a nice song. He also wrote a beautiful song called Sand and Foam, which was also the title of a book by Khalil Gibran. It's interesting because John Lennon took some of the lyrics for Julia from the same Khalil Gibran book. Interesting, I didn't know that. Which lines were they?

Interesting, I didn't know that. Which lines were they? The lyrics from "Julia" are "Half of what I say is meaningless, but I say it just to reach you" and "When I cannot sing my heart, I can only speak my mind". The original lines by Khalil Gibran are "Half of what I say is meaningless, but I say it so that the other half may reach you" and "When life does not find a singer to sing her heart, she finds a philosopher to speak her mind."

Count me as a Donovan fan - digging all his songs from the '60s/'70s era. Many of his great tunes have already been mentioned. Epistle to Dippy is another fun one. His cover of Buffy Sainte Marie's "Universal Soldier" is powerful, too.
The Dylan comparisons, I agree, are not right. They each make very different music. Much as Bob Dylan had a huge presence in his day, and his music profoundly influenced my life - today, when I listen to music, I play Donovan more often than Dylan.
Donovan's enjoyable and has a spirit that's intact and still fresh.

I love Donovan but I've never been a Bob Dylan fan (not much anyway, I do like some of his stuff). I like all the songs people have listed in this thread, apart from a few I've never heard. Another one I love is Sunny Goodge Street.

This is from the PBS special John Lennon's Jukebox. Lennon had the Donovan song Turquoise on his jukebox ,and Donovan talks about how the song inspired Dear Prudence. www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6lMbZ0HI-Y
