Any Queen fans here? what do you think about this? QUEEN Declared 'Top British Band' - Jan. 4, 2008 BBC News reports that Queen has beaten The Beatles to be crowned greatest British band of all time by BBC Radio 2 listeners. They pipped the Fab Four in a live contest, trouncing other finalists The Rolling Stones, Oasis and Take That. The bands were judged on songwriting, lyrics, live performances, originality and showmanship. More than 20,000 listeners voted by email, text and phone. The five finalists had been selected over the previous week by Radio 2 listeners. DJ Mark Goodier then hosted a three-hour live New Year's Day show in which a host of celebrity guests, including boy band McFly, joined listeners in debating who should win the title. After all the votes had been totted up, the winner was then announced live on air — and it was revealed that Queen had beaten The Beatles by just 400 votes. Read more from BBC News.

It's a pity..... ..... In my opinion,The Beatles are much more worthy of being the best english band ever..... ...I dislike Queen and Mercury, frankly speaking, though without a doubt Queen was a huge and great band..... ...But...ehmmm..... I'm really shocked by such a people's decision.........

I am a Queen fan, I have the DVDs and all of the albums, Freddie was a great voice and a fantastic presence, the band were awesome, there is no doubting the talent that was Queen. There is also no doubting the fact that the BEATLES were the better band.

I'm really shocked by such a people's decision......... Oh GOD... AT LAST! I don't like Queen either, although pretty much everyone who likes the Beatles also seems to like Queen. I can't help it, I just don't like their music. Not that I'm trying to say Queen wasn't talented, or that their music SUCKED or something, just that it's not my kind of music. And AT LAST someone who likes the Beatles and DOES NOT like Queen. *Sigh* (sorry for my reaction xD) I'd rather seen the Beatles voted 1 as well, seen as they have most likely changed the world of pop music so much more than Queen.

There's no way Queen are better than the Beatles, in my opinion. I don't dislike them, but I've tried listening to their music and have never really been able to get into it. But these polls don't mean much anyway...I sometimes listen to Radio 2 but I didn't even know they were doing this poll. If they asked the same question again next year, different people might be listening and a different band might win. Still, at least the Beatles beat The Rolling Stones, Oasis and Take That.

Totally agree Nowheregirl, besides are two completely stiles of rock & roll music. Nontheless I like some songs of Queen and I have to admit that Freddie Mercury was great at his time in Queen, the band without him it will never going to be the same again.

Originally I found Queen grated a little, but over time began to appreciate their qualities. Sad that their original line up ended with Freddies' illness - whatever you might think of their music he was a flamboyant showman, with great stage presence and a rare vocal talent. Where they plainly fall behind the Beatles is in their songwriting - good stuff maybe, but few of their tracks have been successfully covered by others, whereas massive hits of Beatle tracks have been had by many artistes.
So the Beatles definitely win again in my book - three very strong writers in one band is exceptional.
Watch out though for the new Queen/Paul Rodgers album later in the year. If the track 'Celebrity' which they performed recently is anything to go by, this should be somewhat better than the live CD from their combined tour a couple of years back - much as I like Paul's vocal talent, he did struggle to cope with some songs, written for as they were for Freddies' different vocal range.
