John Lennon wrote three books of short stories and poems: "In His Own Write" (1964), "A Spaniard In The Works" (1965) and "Skywriting By Word Of Mouth" (1986 - published after his death). Have you read any of them?

I haven't read those books either, my local library has books about John including the one that Cynthia wrote.

No, I haven't read them. Where can I get them? You should be able to buy them from Amazon. I haven't checked anywhere else but Amazon definitely had them all the last time I looked. Or you can read them on these websites (but you won't see all the pictures that are in the books). The Prose and Poetry of John LennonJohn's Writings

I have read all three, In my opinion the first book "In his own write" was the best, I found a first edition in a book collectors store and paid 40 Pounds for it, ow, the guy then told me he had a first edition of A Spaniard in the works and I paid the same for that. Did he see me coming, I don't know, I just know that I was having trouble finding these books and I paid what I paid, I love them though. I paid considerabely less for skywriting. Here is "Good Dog Nigel" from "In His Own Write." Good Dog Nigel Arf, Arf, he goes, a merry sight Our little hairy friend Arf, Arf, upon the lampost bright Arfing round the bend. Nice dog! Goo boy, Waggie tail and beg, Clever Nigel, jump for joy Because we are putting you to sleep at three of the clock, Nigel. If you want to read more then you can go to: www.geocities.com/soho/lofts/8498/ownwrite.html

I've read all three too, but I think I like A Spaniard in the Works better than In His Own Write.

I think that's a good site, especially for people who are new to John's writing.
So, what are your favourite pieces from John's books? From "In His Own Write" I like No Flies On Frank and I Sat Belonely. From "A Spaniard in the Works" I like The Fat Budgie, The Singularge Experience of Miss Anne Duffield, and The Wumberlog.
The part I like best in "Skywriting By Word of Mouth" is The Ballad of John and Yoko which is the short autobiography John wrote that appears at the beginning of the book.

I always found this blurb on the back of In His Own Write rather amusing:
About the Awful
I was bored on the 9th of Octover 1940 when, I believe, the Nasties were still booming us led by Madalf Heatlump (Who had only one). Anyway, they didn't get me. I attended to varicous schools in Liddypol. And still didn't pass-much to my Aunties supplies. As a memebr of the most publified Beatles me and (P, G, and R's) records might seem funnier to some of you than this book, but as far as I'm conceived this correction of short writty is the most wonderfoul larf I've ever ready.
God help and breed you all.

I've read In his own write and Spaniard in the works (But I don't own them) I own Skywriting by word of mouth and started it once but I only got into the first couple chapters I think. I've actually be meaning to pick it up and do that these last couple of days. I hope I get around to reading it soon. I loved In his own write and Spaniard in the works! So funny and interesting! It was awhile ago since I read them (over a year, maybe about 2) I think I remember liking In his own write better, but I really loved them both!

My favourite pieces are 'I Sat Belonely', 'Deaf Ted, Danoota (And Me)', 'The Wumberlog (or The Magic Dog)' and 'Our Dad' (from In His Own Write and A Spaniard In The Works) at the moment. It's been a while since I've read 'Skywriting By Word Of Mouth'...
