I also love the 60's John Lennon in looks and songwritng, but the late 60's and the 70's made him grow up in my opinion. It was also a wonderful period. I love John in every year! ;D

Love every year, probably 64-67 as a songwriter.

Beatle years: '66-'67 I like him because most of my favorite Beatles songs written by John were during this period. And, he looked sooo good during those years ;D
Solo: '70-'71 Again, I love the songs he wrote during this period ;D

I think all years were amazing and profitable, but I think the late 70's were better for himself ( personality and ego) and his family. Staying with Sean and being a 'house-husband' really made him realize that life is too short (which is quite ironic, looking back at how things ended). According to his creativity, I think that from '65 on, John became more and more creative. It was the year he started writing autobiographical songs, which were his best, in my opinion. From then on, everything changed. John grew up as a lyricist, which definitely gave an edge to the Beatles.

I prefere John in the 60's except for when he grew his beard and looked different and weird. I think he looked great. I also like him during the Imagine sessions. He looked great in the 70's and 1980 but he was too thin.

He did look great in the 70's. You can see that in 'Imagine: The Movie'. He looked like this (I'm not sure if these are from the 70's, but still, he looks great):

With the Beatles: 1962-1966 and 1968-1970 (I just don't like Sgt. Pepper's and Magical Mystery Tour) and Solo probably 1971 and 1972.
