I guess he'd just want him to stay behind bars...in his song Attica State he says that all prisoners should be released, but I think he would have changed his mind about that.

Lennon essentially felt that the reason people committed crime was because of the society they lived in. I think he would be interested in finding out why a man would pick up a gun and shoot someone dead in the street. Where did MDC's life go wrong. And if MDC had served sentence, Lennon would fight for his freedom as hard as he fought for John Sinclair.

I'm not sure what he would have done. I have a video clip with John and Yoko on the David Frost Show (I think it was in 1971) and they are both saying that everybody, including prisoners, has a right to freedom. But I think I agree with lennonfan that if something had actually happened to him, he might have felt differently. I know Yoko has said she wouldn't feel safe if MDC was released, but who knows if John would have thought the same? We can only guess what he would have wanted.

There's actually something about this in the news today... Starpulse.comYoko Ono Wants Mark David Chapman Locked Up For LifeJohn Lennon's widow Yoko Ono has called for his murderer Mark David Chapman to be locked up until he dies. Chapman has been in prison since he shot Lennon to death outside his Manhattan home on December 8, 1980. He has been up for parole on a number of occasions, but it has always been denied - and Ono insists he should never be released. In an interview with Mojo magazine, the 74-year-old says, "I'm a practical, logical person and I think it would be very dangerous for him to come out. Both for himself and for Julian, Sean and me."

Put yourself in John's situation. What if you got shot? What would you do? That's the question.

You absolutely have to put yourself in John's situation. Also, looking at what Yoko says you can get a rough idea that even though they both believed that at some point everyone deserves freedom this was a very personal attack. I seriously feel that her wanting MDC in jail for life is because of the impact it has had on her and the whole Lennon family not the idea of freedom for everyone.

I seriously feel that her wanting MDC in jail for life is because of the impact it has had on her and the whole Lennon family not the idea of freedom for everyone. Yoko put it clear here: "I'm a practical, logical person and I think it would be very dangerous for him to come out. Both for himself and for Julian, Sean and me." If MDC gets out of prison there would be like millions of people wanting him dead or at least badly hurt (no matter how many of Lennon fans are pacifists). Yoko states that if he gets out he'd be in danger (so does she, Sean and Julian) but she does think about him too. At least, if I ever see MDC walking down the street, I'd at least throw him a rock, and for what Yoko said, it looks like she doesn't want that. Smooth - Carlos Santana

I think John would want that maniac to spend the rest of his life in prison.

If MDC got released he wouldn't survive a week. There would be more than one crazed Beatles fan who would want him dead.

He would want him locked up.
Just imagine, if for some crazy reason, he lived through that shooting, what would be be like after it?
I think he would have gone into total reclusiveness like he did before, but more so. No songs again, or at least a very long time. That would scar you for life.
