Well, that day of the year is almost here again. If you'd like to share your memories or thoughts about John, let's keep all our posts in this thread. Is anyone planning to do anything special on Saturday to remember John?

I remember clearly the day in 2001 when I not only became a fan, I should rather say: When my life changed in just a wonderful way. Since then so much has happened but the affection is the same.
Today we remember you, John Lennon. "Wherever you are - you are here."

A letter from Yoko
December 8, 2007
I miss you, John. 27 years later, I still wish I could turn back the clock to the Summer of 1980. I remember everything - sharing our morning coffee, walking in the park together on a beautiful day, and seeing your hand stretched to mine - holding it, reassuring me that I shouldn't worry about anything because our life was good.
I had no idea that life was about to teach me the toughest lesson of all. I learned the intense pain of losing a loved one suddenly, without warning, and without having the time for a final hug and the chance to say, "I love you," for the last time. The pain and shock of that sudden loss is with me every moment of every day. When I touched John's side of our bed on the night of December 8th, 1980, I realized that it was still warm. That moment has haunted me for the past 27 years - and will stay with me forever.
Even harder for me is watching what was taken away from our beautiful boy, Sean. He lives in silent anger over not having his Dad, whom he loved so much, around to share his life with. I know we are not alone. Our pain is one shared by many other families who are suffering as the victims of senseless violence. This pain has to stop.
Let's not waste the lives of those we have lost. Let's, together, make the world a place of love and joy and not a place of fear and anger. This day of John's passing has become more and more important for so many people around the world as the day to remember his message of Peace and Love and to do what each of us can to work on healing this planet we cherish.
Let's: Think Peace, Act Peace, and Spread Peace. John worked for it all his life. He said, "there's no problem, only solutions." Remember, we are all together. We can do it, we must. I love you!

R.I.P. John
I also became a Beatles fan in 2001 and it has changed my life drastically.
I am currently reading "The Last Days of John Lennon" which was written by Fred Seaman who was his personal secretary from 1979-1980. John really cleaned up his life and was a really good husband and father when he died.
R.I.Peace

That's a nice letter from Yoko, thanks for posting it. Wow, fans since 2001... I've been a fan since before he was killed. The years are flying by.

Well, I've only been a fan since 2004 but John and the Beatles have already had a huge influence on my life. I miss you John. Peace and love.

I had only started reading the first post when the tears began to fall......such a sad,sad day......I remember being quite numb for a long time after this terribly tragic day all those years ago.
I hope you don't ever think I'm bragging when I say I'm one of those fortunate to have seen The Lads live but I will cherish the memory forever ....I just adored These Lads and John's passing was a very difficult time to get through.....he was so young.
Love, love you John....together with Paul,George and Ringo you gave me some of my happiest moments....thanks...xxxxxx

I always find it hard to put into words how much John means to me...so I'll just say that I love you, John - even though I was born almost six months after you died you're still one of the biggest influences on my life. I'm thinking about you today and listening to your music. Thank you, John.

It is such a sad day. I have been a fan since about 1988 and was only 4 years old when John was murdered. John has always been my favorite Beatle, but as I am sure you all know, it goes so much deeper than that. I hate to think of how many wonderful things John could have been doing these past 27 years, but I am happy for the things he did do for 40 years on earth. I miss him and love him.

eleanor, I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one here who was a fan back when all four were still alive. I'm kind of surprised at how many fans are so "new" to them. You're not bragging to say that you had seen them live. That's great! I'd like to hear more about it.
When I was in high school (a long time ago) there was a guy who happened to mention that his mother was from Liverpool, England. I mentioned the Beatles to him and he said that she had seen them perform in Liverpool before they were famous. I just remember him saying that she said they looked "small". I guess she meant small in person compared to seeing them on TV, in pictures, etc. I would have liked to have had a conversation with her!
