Lots of other bands and musicians have released cover versions of John Lennon's songs.
Have you heard any good covers (or maybe even some that you like better than the original version?)

No. I can be very simple about it. No, I haven't. I discust the Across the Universe version by Fiona Apple, I'm just not arsed to like it. Hehe. It just doesn't work for me because John's had a typical voice, you can distinguish it out of a thousand other voices and immediatly recognize it as his so.... his music goes with his voice very well

I'm not real big on covers. I've heard Jimi Hendrix cover Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band once, and...I didn't like it. (though I'm not a real big fan of Jimi Hendrix, either)

Covers can be okay if they try to do something different with the song, otherwise I don’t see the point.

I don't have problems with the song and I don't compare it to the Beatles' version because they're just two very different versions It doesn't sound like a, er, cover haha

Yes, that's what I was thinking of. They're like two totally different songs, aren't they?

Yeah! I first didn't even know they were the same lyrics, I discovered it when we were on holiday in Germany last year. We were going home after we'd done some shopping and me dad had turned on the radio while I was listening mp3. Then on a certain moment the version of Joe Cocker was on the radio while the Beatles' was playing on me mp3 xD Funny coincidence, that's all

I'm not a big fan of covers either but I've heard a few that are good. I like Strawberry Fields Forever by Richie Havens.

I like some of the covers of Lennon's songs although I think the Beatles period would be the most popular era for other artists to cover. Paul Weller did a great version of Instant karma. Besides that two albums of covers come to mind that are both good. One was George Martins "In My life" and the other was the "I Am Sam" soundtrack that has some outstanding tracks on it. One that deserves mentioning as the guys voice is awesome is Rufus Wainwright's version of across the universe.

I forgot about Paul Weller doing Instant Karma...you're right, it's a good version. It's on the Lennon Covered CD that came with Q magazine a few years ago.

On that same Q cd you will find a nice cover of Don't Let me Down by the Stereophonics

I know some more... Was just seeing what was on the channels and by accident I lingered on Omrop Frýslân and there was a song on named Lutske Laket. Aka Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds... in Frisian. Then I looked it up on the internet and I found out the guy had made a couple of Beatlesongs covers... I managed to track down 2 on the internet: Fjoer (Norwegian Wood) and Lutske Laket (Lucy in the Sky) Here's the links: Fjoer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGYj7sYNxOALutske Laket: www.thornado.nl/radiofriesland/index1.html(the 2nd song from above) In fjoer he sings about the Ikea ^o) NO idea why.

I forgot the (In my opinion) ultimate cover of John's work, Roxy Music's version of Jealous Guy. Bryan Ferry has a very distinctive voice as well and really does this song justice.
