Since it's Christmas time, and since we don't have a song of the month thread for this month...
What do you all think of Happy Xmas (War Is Over)? It's my favorite Christmas song, not just because John wrote it but I think it's a great song. I think it's cool the way it has all the usual Christmas things (childrens choir, bells etc) yet it still sounds different to all the other Chrsitmas songs, and of course, it has such an important message too.
Who else loves this song?

I absolutely love the song as well. We might be going to sing it at school (project of this year for the graduation classes; sing christmassongs for the elderly and disabled people... o.0 ''an angels choir'' - oh well, whatever ) In fact, it has always been one of my favorites, ever since I was young and did not know anything about the Beatles (or John) at all. (Mind you, didn't even know he died ) so... I most certainly prefer John's song over Paul's

WIthout a doubt, Happy Christmas (War is over) is a great song. I don't know about all of you, but when I listen to it, I really have to think. "So this is Christmas and what have you done, another year over and a new one just begun." What HAVE you done this year? Just sit around scanning Beatles photos (cough cough...that would be ME) or did you do something important to change the world?

Ooh yesterday I had to eat with dad alone, mum was working and my brother was having football practise. Then War is Over came on the radio, and dad told me that it was the song he found most christmassy, just BECAUSE it's not only ABOUT christmas as in 'bells, happyness, etcetera' but also about world peace.
I haven't done much, except for printing the War is Over posters and such.

Happy Xmas (War Is Over) is absolutely my favourite Christmas song too. It's one of the only Christmas songs I think is still a good song to listen to at any time of year, even in July, lol! ;D

The song sums up Lennon really.
The song, being a Christmas flavour, could have been a feel good seasons greetings song.
Yet, Lennon used his community spirit and togetherness and used the choir. He also imparted a meaningful message, .."and what have you done?"

I think that this is one of my fave John's songs. As BudgieWudgieWeed said, it's supposed that Xmas means peace, union and love, and not presents, snow and bells (and most of the Xmas songs are about that : And I think that John really got the message and the real meaning of those holidays. That's why I like it
