Is John Lennon's first real solo album entitled 'John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band' or just 'Plastic Ono Band'? It's been bugging me for a while.
The official Lennon website lists it as POB, but I've seen so many more references refer to it as JL/POB.

That's a good question. I think the official title was John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band because Yoko also released an album on the same day called Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band. The album covers were also nearly identical (I think they were maybe hoping that people would pick up Yoko's by mistake). Usually though, most people refer to John's album just as Plastic Ono Band.

Well, on the cover of the album 'Hotel California' by the Eagles, it reads 'Eagles/Hotel California,' but that album is only referred to as 'Hotel California.'
Also, on John's other releases, his name appears first, followed by the album title. If JL/POB was the album name, would it not read, 'John Lennon - John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band?'
Sorry if this is coming across as petty to anyone but I'd like to know!

On my copy of the album it is titled JOHN LENNON/PLASTIC ONO BAND, Yoko's album is titled YOKO ONO/PLASTIC ONO BAND. However in the sleeve notes to the LENNON box set the tracks taken from Johns Album are simply credited to JOHN LENNON. To add to the confusion in the Anthology box set notes all of the tracks from those sessions are listed as taken from PLASTIC ONO BAND with no mention of John Lennon at all. On the John Lennon collection sleeve notes all of the tracks taken from this album are listed as from the EMI records album PLASTIC ONO BAND. More up to date, on the Definitive Lennon sleeve notes the album is titled JOHN LENNON/PLASTIC ONO BAND. And that is all of the research I am going to do on this, sorry you are your own. ;D

What if the / between John Lennon and Plastic Ono Band was there to replace the word AND. That would then make the album untitled. This would also lend creedence to the fact that this album is more colloqially known as the primal scream album. A bit like the Beatles white album. Are you still with me? So this album could be: 1. John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band 2. Plastic Ono Band 3. Untitled. Take your pick.

Hahaha, exactly! Confusing innit? It's the slash that makes it so confusing. The slash could also just be an alternative to a dash (artist - album title).
Also, if the album title was indeed JL/POB, his name is already in the title so there'd be no reason to have it twice.
But the thing is, why isn't the album by the Eagles not referred to as 'Eagles/Hotel California' in the same way as JL/POB? They're both written in the exact same format.
