What is this song about? Anyone want to give their opinion? Or do you think it's just nonsense lyrics, not intended to have any meaning?
I get the references to the Rolling Stones and Johnny & the Moondogs.

I went to songmeanings.net these are only opinions from other lovers of music such as yourselves. Some are good and some are not but here were the more intelligent guesses.
by Johnlennnnon on 05-30-2007 @ 10:56:04 PM Well you can celebrate anything you want—hippies counterculture revolution!! Be individual! There are no restrictions. Well you can penetrate any place you go – you can make a difference. Any place you can go, you can leave your impression and change the lives of many. (like john lennon) Well you can radiate everything you are – don’t keep yourself inside you. You can e yourself, march around, and not let judgment make you afraid. Well you can imitate everyone you know—people were all trying to be like john lennon, you can emulate them all you want, but you are never them. Well you can indicate everything you see—anyting and everything is to your disposal. The universe is in your hands, Use your materials. Don’t let anything stop you. Well you can syndicate any boat you row—I think this has to do with music. Anything you can do, you can sell. This may be in reference to him thinking he was selling himself. John lennon was not proud of that.
by TheFifthBeatle on 04-14-2007 @ 11:24:24 AM Well, everyone knows that John was a genious and he wrote lots of songs that had wonderful meanings. But he also wrote a lot of songs that didn't really mean anything for several reasons. Sometimes to provoke and sometimes to annoy and sometimes because he just felt like it, This song is, as some people has pointed out before in this thread, a wordgame simply. But it has one sentence that is true and is the klimax of every verse. "All I want is you" is, of course, aimed at Yoko. My interpretation is that he's singing random words that doesn't actually have any meaning but always return to singing about Yoko. Could this mean that he didn't care about anything except Yoko maybe? He did say that this song was a piece of garbage so he might not even have thought about it so much and just sang what he felt like.
by dan0311 on 12-31-2004 @ 06:55:42 PM Pure speculation...
I dig a pony...horse...heroin. Celebrate anything you want.
I do a road hog...groupie...penetrate any place you want.
Pick a moon dog - Early Lennon band in Liverpool was Johnny and the Moondogs. Radiate? Star?
Roll a stoney...the Rolling Stones, imitating "everyone you know, including the Beatles, which they did throughout the entire 60's
Syndicate any boat you row? WTF??? I've always wondered about that lyric.
For those of you who know John's written work in his two books, you know about his love of wordplay, puns, and twisting words around to make new ones. Any thoughts about "syndicate any boat you row?"
What John said about it himself
"I was just having fun with words. It was literally a nonsense song. You just take words and you stick them together, and you see if they have any meaning. Some of them do and some of them don't."
And saving the best 'til last.
by breathofthegirl on 10-12-2006 @ 10:37:39 PM this song is one of my favorite beatle songs i dont care what the true meaning is or whats behind it. they are pure geniuses, thats good enough

Those are interesting ideas. I use songmeanings.net all the time...sometimes it's very useful in finding out what songs are about though most of the time people are just guessing. This is another site: www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=178

That a very good site. Thanks, lennonfan.
The lyrics may be a bit strange, but the song is, nevertheless, great.

The lyrics may be a bit strange, but the song is, nevertheless, great. I'm glad you think so. I've always loved Dig A Pony too.
