Starpulse.comJohn Lennon borrowed a set of medals from a former bandmate for the cover shot of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The Beatles star wore the military decorations on the cover of the iconic 1967 album. The medals had been awarded to Major Thomas Shaw - ex-drummer Pete Best's grandfather - after serving with the British army in India. Best - who was sacked from the group in 1962 and replaced by Ringo Starr - explains Lennon was fond of his grandfather's medals and their history, and called his mother to request her permission to borrow them. He says, "He just loved the look and the feel of them and never tired of the stories behind them."
