From E! NewsApple just scored some instant karma with John Lennon fans. The company's iTunes Store began selling the late Beatle's solo catalog on Tuesday, the first time Lennon's work has been available via the Internet's most popular digital download service. Effective immediately, 16 of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's albums are available, including his landmark Plastic Ono Band, Imagine and Double Fantasy, as well as the compilation albums Lennon Legend, Acoustic, Anthology and Working Class Hero. The entire catalog has been digitally remastered, and the tracks will be available in DRM-free format for $1.29 each. As a bonus, exclusive videos will be bundled with several of the albums for the next month. "John would have loved the fact that his music will now be available in a format suited to a new generation of listeners," Yoko Ono said in a statement. "John Lennon is one of the greatest artists of our time," added Steve Jobs, Apple CEO and inveterate Beatlemaniac. "We're thrilled to have his solo catalog available on the iTunes Store for the first time." With the addition of Lennon, three of the four Beatles have now made their way to iTunes. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr came aboard earlier this year, leaving George Harrison as the only one whose solo post-Beatles oeuvre is not represented. (Harrison's Traveling Wilburys music debuted in June.)

Well I dont get it. 1st of all. I Tunes is not the most popular digital download service. I would say limewire would be near or at the top. Unlike I Tunes who have graciously decided they will now SELL John Lennon songs, many a download site ( Limewire )have allowed people to download whatever Lennon or Beatles song you want, for FREE, for many years And unlike I Tunes who only allow you to play your download on their software or Ipod( unless you want to go to the trouble of converting an M4P to mp3) all limeware ( or whoever you chose) downloads, are imediatley able to play in your car MP3 player, your portable MP3 player, your DVD player, many options. I Tunes is a joke And to further show what a joke i Tunes is, many a person download songs from them then make that same download available for free on other sites

Sorry, but I really dont understand. Why would anyone get excited about ITunes suddenly allowing you to pay for downloading Lennon or any other Beatle member songs when they have all been widely available on the internet, free, for years? Any Beatle or John music video? Free, for years now.
As i said on another thread weeks ago. I have made all my Beatle bootlegs , including ALL the Christmas messages available on the internet for anyone to download...FREE Betcha I Tunes doesnt let you download that
ITunes are no different than the recording industry that robbed the Beatles of millions of dollars in royalties

Where I do agree with you is that the music industry have ripped people off for years with over charging and now the people are getting their own back. I find the music industry cries of foul a bit rich when they could stand accused of piracy themselves. I guess there is not going to be a long term answer to this problem, Musicians have a right to earn a living, I guess in a lot of cases they are as exploited as the consumer.

Well, going back to the original article, I don't use iTunes myself but I think anything that makes John's music accessible to more people has to be a good thing.

I have bought the Lennon music that I didn't have from Itunes. It is of high quality and is a good service. Oh, and it sounds great on speakers.
