Bid to solve Lennon mysteryMerseyside music lovers are being asked to help solve the mystery of a guitar believed to have been left at a seaside hotel by John Lennon. The Hofner Congress was reputedly handed to a Devon hotelier by the Beatles legend in the early 1960s to pay for accommodation., and was kept by the hotelier's family for more than three decades. Current owner David Treloar is trying to find out if the guitar really did belong to Lennon and is coming to and is travelling 300 miles from south Devon this weekend to the fifth Merseyside Guitar Show at Aintree Racecourse in the hope someone may be able to tell him. Plymouth health care worker Mr Treloar said: "I bought the guitar in 1996 from a man whose father owned the Bigbury Bay Hotel in Devon. "He told me John Lennon and a couple of friends stayed there for a short while in the early 1960s. It would have been between 1963 and 1965. "Lennon couldn’t afford to pay his bill. The band weren't given much spending money, so he left the guitar behind, saying he'd go into Plymouth and get the money. But he never came back." "I'm not saying the guitar belonged to Lennon. It could have been his friend's. Now he's hoping someone can shed some light on it. I'm really interested to learn more about the tale. There will also be product demonstrations together with a display of vintage guitars by Music Ground and guitar building pointers from Bailey Guitar Experience. The event runs from 10am to 5pm on Sunday. For details visit www.guitarshows.co.uk
