This was Lennon's Most Politically active album, every track had a Political message with little space left for LOVE. John had even abandoned world peace to take up more grass roots issues such as political prisoners and the English occupation of Northern Ireland. One thing was apparent though, he was still protesting. For many this album is not Lennon's best but I think it has some interesting features. For a start, it had the John song Yoko song format of Double Fantasy and would pre-date that release by eight years. The cover itself got the Lennon's in hot water as it portrayed an image of Nixon and Mao dancing. The music was even more confrontational for some with Lennon using the word Nigger, surely an unsavoury term but one he put to good use in this context. I would rate the songs as follows: 1. Woman Is The Nigger Of The World (6) 2. Sisters O Sisters (5) 3. Attica State (5) 4. Born In A Prison (5) 5. New York City (7) 6. Sunday Bloody Sunday (4) 7. The Luck Of The Irish (5) 8. John Sinclair (6) 9. Angela (5) 10. We’re All Water (4) The hi-light of the album was New York City, an autobiographical look at the life of the Lennons at that time, much in the same vane as the Ballad of John and Yoko, the weakest track being Sunday Bloody Sunday, I think U2 managed it better (sorry John, there's an exception to everything, if that's the only thing they did better than you then you did good) and finally stars, it falls mid range for me and I would give it *** 3 stars. An interesting side note to this album is that the release contains a second disc of live recordings called LIVE JAM and contains some live tracks that John and Yoko recorded with Frank Zappa and his band at the Fillmore East in June 1971 and a December 1969 recording of John and the Plastic Ono Band at the Lyceum in London. That particular P.O.B contained John's friend (and Yours) George harrison on Guitar. Thanks for reading, Love and Peace, Peace and Love.

Which song(s) do you like best? Woman is the Nigger of the World and The Luck of the Irish.
Which song(s) do you like least? I think Yoko's song We're All Water is the weakest track on the album.
How many stars would you give this album (where * is the lowest and ***** is the highest)? **
Other comments about this album: The album has a mixture of John songs, Yoko songs, and some that they wrote together, covering a range of different political topics such as feminism, prisoners and Northern Ireland. It's definitely the worst of John's albums, but there are still a few good points. I think the Luck of the Irish has a nice melody, and Woman is the Nigger of the World is also not a bad song (although the title got John into trouble, but if you listen to the lyrics of the song it becomes obvious what he meant by it).
