Lennon recorded this album during his Lost weekend hiatus. The fact that it got released at all is a testament to how much Lennon loved Rock 'N' Roll. The sessions were surrounded by chaos, with most of the musicians involved being intoxicated or stoned, Spector who was producing the sessions was discharging firearms in the studio and then to cap it all he took of with the master tapes putting the whole project on hold. When Lennon got the tapes back (He had to Sue for thier return) he found that most of the work was un-usable. He set about re-recording and trying to save the project and didn't do a bad job. If you like Rock 'N' Roll this is a great release for you, it is full of standards with the outstanding track and my personal favourite being "Stand By Me." I don't really have a least favourite track, this album cruises along and is really not noteworthy beyond that. 1. Be-Bop-A-Lula (6) 2. Stand By Me (8) 3. Rip It Up/Ready Teddy (6) 4. You Can't Catch Me (7) 5. Ain't That A Shame (7) 6. Do You Want To Dance (6) 7. Sweet Little Sixteen (6) 8. Slippin' And Slidin' (7) 9. Peggy Sue (6) 10. Bring It On Home To Me/Send Me Some Lovin' (6) 11. Bony Moronie (6) 12. Ya Ya (6) 13. Just Because (7) Stars: *** (three stars) One or two points of interest, Lennon was sued by Levy for copyright theft on the Beatles Track "Come Together" Levy claimed that the Chuck Berry track "You can't Catch me" was ripped off and certainly when you listen to it you can hear a similarity. In an out of court settlement Lennon agreed to release some Levy owned numbers and those releases are included in this track list. It nicely worked for Lennon as he got to do Rock "N' Roll and it also discharged his resposibility to Levy. The Cover art is a photograph of Lennon taken in his Hamburg days, Lennon described the Photo as the essence and beauty of the Beatles. Lastly McCartney later claimed that he had wanted to release an album of Rock 'N' Roll standards but Lennon beat him too it putting his own project on hold. Of course McCartney would later release Both "CHOBBA CCCP" and "Run Devil Run" both albums of standards, McCartney noted that it was interesting that they both opted to record Fats Dominoes "Aint that a shame."

I listen to this album when I'm a little down and just want to listen to some good enjoyable rock n' roll. Just Because always puts me in a good mood. Bring it on home/Send me some lovin' is the one that really gets me going. John sounds like he's really having fun. I give all these songs (in the context of the album) A 10, except for Sweet Little Sixteen. That track really doesn't do it for me. I'll give that one a 7.
